Silk Road Palace is an Upper West Side institution. The restaurant is packed almost every night of the week, with a line out the door and along the block on the New York weekend (Thurs-Sat). It attracts customers from across the city, from Columbia to NYU, Brooklyn and beyond. The secret to its success lies in its alternate moniker "White-wine Chinese". Yes, Silk Road Palace is the fabled home of the Free, Unlimited White Wine *. While some may doubt the quality of the wine, like any true vintage it really does improve with time, so rapidly in fact that by the third or fourth carafe it tastes marvelous. The waiters replenish your carafe from the box when it becomes half-empty, but in this optimist's paradise, half-empty rapidly blurs into half-full and the hour long wait seems a distant memory**.The other surprising secret is that the food is actually really good! Families compete with students for the limited seating throughout the evening. It's also remarkable inexpensive for the Upper West Side, and a delightful start to the evening can be enjoyed by all for around $15, which includes tip, appetizer, and as much free white rice as you can eat, and as much free white wine as you can drink**. Menu highlights include General Tso's Chicken, Sesame Beef and any number of delicious Roast Pork Entrees. So enjoy the best value and the best food in New York, but don't tell too many other people about it!* To those with proper I.D.** Please Drink Responsibly
